The Bluffton Swim Club open its season with two wins this month.

The  following student athletes competed for the Bluffton Swim Club; seniors Simon Derstine and Ellie Hoffman, junior Malia Lee, sophmores Landon Armstrong, Sam Derstine, Allison Diller, Nolan Hoffman, CJ McCall, Eric Nygaard and Riley Verb, and freshmen Ella Armstrong, Tyler Cupples, Jacob Lehman and Izzy Stechschulte. 

Landon Armstrong won all three of his events which included the boys 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:18:75. 

Subscription service sign-up underway; program begins in January

The Bluffton Public Library announces a new program, The Book Bag - A Library Subscription Service, according to Jessica Hermiller, library administrator. 

"The program allows community members to request a monthly-themed or specially-curated bag of items from the library collection along with an activity," she said.

"The Book Bag checks out for four weeks, with new bags being automatically prepared for pickup the next month.  

Registration for The Book Bag begins today, Dec. 14, with the program starting January 2021.

The Beavers suffered their first loss of the season on the road at Transylvania University on a rainy Saturday, Dec. 12. The Beavers lost 83-61, shooting a mere 29.9 percent from the field, compared to Transylvania's red-hot 52.9 percent from the field.

The Bluffton University men's basketball team capped off a successful start to the 2020-21 season with a 3-0 mark. An Adrian College squad that won the MIAA conference tournament in 2019-20 was a handful, but the Beavers prevailed in a pair of nail-biters before pulling away 68-52 on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Dean French, 83, died Dec. 12, 2020, at Bluffton Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.   

Visitation will be held immediately prior to the service from noon. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Arrangements are pending at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
