The Bluffton University men's golf team shot a 477 over 27 holes at the Capital Fall Classic on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021. The event at the Blacklick Golf Course scheduled for 36 holes was cut short due to darkness.
Leading the Beavers were a pair of juniors who checked in with scores of 115 on Monday. Clay Quellhorst (St. Marys/Memorial) and Nathan Eberle (Grove City) were a mere seven shots over par for the round and a half at Reynoldsburg. Eberle's score included a sparkling 36 for the nine holes in round two!
At the Bluffton council meeting of October 11, the Bluffton Police Department honored five officers with service awards ranging from five to thirty years. Officers Troy Hartzog, Officer Charles “Ed” Montgomery, Officer Nathan Jordan, Lt. Matthew Oglesbee, and Corporal Lonny Kent were presented with certificates and plaques commemorating their awards.
The Bluffton Icon will feature information on the four candidates running for three seats on the Bluffton School Board of Education in the November 2 General Election: Bradley J. Dailey, Mitch Giesige, Roni L. Kaufman and Wesley L. Klinger.

Nature Walk at Motter Metro Park: Enjoy the sights and sounds of an early fall evening in the prairie as you go on a Nature Walk at Motter Metro Park led by Naturalist Dan Hodges of Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. Meet at the park, and be sure to dress for the weather and ground conditions.
This program is geared for adults, but children are welcome if accompanied by an adult. A minimum number must register in order for Bluffton Public Library to hold this program.
The Bluffton High School volleyball team was seeded sixth at the 13-team Kalida Div. III sectional/district drawing Sunday, October 10.
The Lady Pirates (13-7) host seventh seed Van Buren (14-5) Monday, October 18 at 5 p.m. in sectional first round play. In a scheduling quirk, Bluffton also plays at Van Buren Oct. 14 in the regular season finale.
The sectional semifinal winner advances to the second round at third-seeded Ottawa-Glandorf (15-5) Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. The victor there advances to the Kalida district semis Oct. 25. The district finals are Oct. 27.
The Bluffton University women's golf team capped off its 2021 fall slate with a 6th place finish at the HCAC Championship on Sunday, Oct. 10. Bluffton shot a 355 (tied for 4th all-time) after rounds of 388 and 364 on Friday and Saturday at Legends Golf Club. The 1107 is the best 54-hole score in Bluffton women's history.
