The Bluffton University women's basketball team recovered from a sluggish start to rout Anderson University 83-59 on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022. Bluffton solidified its hold on second place in the HCAC, improving to 12-5 and 7-3 in the conference, while Anderson dipped to 8-9 and 5-5 in the Heartland.

Bluffton trailed 8-3 and 10-8 before going up for good at 14-12 when Morgan Smith (Arlington) knocked down a jumper at the 3:46 mark of period one. That started a string of nine straight points for the junior phenom as Bluffton took a 21-17 lead into the second quarter.

Parts 2 and 3 of Handel's Messiah

The Bluffton University Department of Music has issued an invitation to choral singers to prepare for and perform in the Masterworks Concert to be given in Yoder Recital Hall on April 10.

The concert will feature parts 2 and 3 of Handel’s “Messiah.” There are a total of 11 rehearsals, one Saturday dress rehearsal and one concert. Masks are required during practices.

Rehearsals will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays each week starting Feb. 1 in the Gilliom Room of Mosiman Hall on campus.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022, a public auction will be held at The Community Park Building, 300 Johns Street, Vanlue, Ohio. The auction will include 104.8 +/- acres of farmland in 3 parcels; located in section 19, Amanda Twp., Hancock County, Ohio. The farm is located southwest of Vanlue on CR 1936, 1 mile north of SR 103.

The Village of Bluffton has announced the following public meetings for January and February 2022. The meetings will be held at the Bluffton Town Hall, unless noted.

Over 750 sophomores in Apollo Career Center’s 11-member district will be visiting Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, January 28, 2022. The school is located at 3325 Shawnee Rd, Lima, Ohio.

This day is designed to expose students to possibilities and pathways that are available for their career and/or college success. Students choose two programs of interest and then spend one-half day visiting those labs, meeting the instructors and participating in fun, interactive demos and activities. Two new programs have been added to this year's option. HVAC and Senior-Only Robotics

Pay raise discussion, College View intersection, unclaimed cremated remains

All council members, administrators, and employees were in their places at 7:00 p.m. sharp as Mayor Rich Johnson does not start meetings late. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Council approved the last meeting's minutes and payment of the last two weeks' bills.

Several committees met jointly in recent days, as important matters often require input from different angles. 

Bluffton Schools are on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 26.

Who is the greatest of all time (GOAT) among female athletes at Bluffton High School (BHS)? It is Juleen Matter (track)? Or Ann Stechschulte (track)? Or Caity Matter (basketball)? Or Bonnie Stratton (track)?

Another candidate is Janet Shelly. Janet (Shelly) Donigan was a good student in my mathematics classes at Bluffton High School. She graduated in 1979. Her father was Bruce Shelly, a Nationwide insurance agent. After retirement Bruce and Marilyn Shelly moved to Florida. Janet has owned her own business, Health Care Financial Group, for 32 years in Florida. She is a CPA and is a consultant to hospitals. She and her husband, Jim Donigan, have three adult children.

The State of Ohio COVID-19 dashboard report for January 20, 2022 shows 32 new student cases and 1 new teacher case in one week at the Bluffton Exempted Village School District. The cumulative number of cases for the 2021-2022 academic year is 66 student and 7 staff cases.

Kindergarten Screening for the Bluffton Exempted Village Schools is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22. 

If your child will be entering kindergarten in Fall 2022, you will need to fill out the form linked HERE to provide necessary information for the incoming student.
