The Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Service Group will hold a Chicken BBQ fundraiser on April 30 with proceeds will supporting the purchase of a 6-person golf cart.
Last year a golf cart was borrowed for a short time and residents thoroughly enjoyed the local outings. As a result, MHCO will create a golf cart outings program for residents and visiting family members. Outings will be designed by residents and MHCO team members to secure a wide variety of themes from outdoor art to nature and familiar Bluffton sites. The golf cart will cost around $19,000.
On April 11, a Euclid man was indicted in the death of Bluffton police officer Dominic Francis, who was killed on March 31 while trying to stop a car fleeing at high speed near the I-75 exit at State Route 103.
Emin R. Johnson, 20, faces a 10-count indictment that includes charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide. He is believed to be the driver of the car that struck Francis, according to the Findlay Courier. Johnson is currently in the Hancock County Justice Center,
The Bluffton University men's golf team had its weekend cut in half by Mother Nature, but it battled a talented field at the Nye Intercollegiate on Sunday, April 10, 2022. Bluffton came in 7th, but the top eight teams were separated by just 25 strokes.
Junior Justin Metsker (Burbank/Wickliffe) paced the Beavers with an 82 on Sunday. Spencer Daniels (Ashland) checked in with an 85, while fellow seniors Dominic Castelvetere (Ontario) and Nick Offenburger (Lexington) were both one stroke behind Daniels. Evan Kujawa (Toledo/Whitmer) followed with a 90 at the Wooster Country Club.
The Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area (GBPA) are inviting the public to a May 3 lecture given by Ann Boyd (herbalist and owner of My Own Backyard) on “The Waxing and Waning of Direct Seed Sowing.” Boyd will talk about which herbs, flowers and vegetables grow best from sowing directly into the ground, plus much more.

Bluffton University will award eleven full-tuition scholarships to current teachers seeking their Ohio Department of Education intervention specialist license. The program will be funded by a $130,000 grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Eligible teachers must work at schools connected to Bluffton University’s Education Partnership.
The Bluffton University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Adrian College on April 10, 2022. Bluffton moved to 10-12, while Adrian improved to 7-15 on the season.
Bluffton fell behind 9-1 midway through the fifth with the lone run coming in the second when Kryshel Dales (Defiance/Ayersville) doubled and crossed the dish following a Lily Tate (Mount Gilead/Northmor) base hit.
