Public complete streets workshop, August 12 / Celebration for Officer Lonny Kent, August 27

On Monday, Agust 8, Village of Bluffton council members were presented with a very light agenda on the dog-days of summer meeting. There were no committee reports or legislative action on the table.

ADMINISTRATION
Village administrator Jesse Blackburn reported on progress of two special committees. The Complete Streets Task Force culminates their work this Friday, August 12 with a full-day workshop, open to the public, to distill their surveys and findings into a policy to guide how the Village builds streets to accommodate more varied forms of getting around. 

October 15 event at 246 Cherry Street

Blended Roots will be hosting its first annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festivalfrom 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m on October 15, 2022. It will be located at 246 Cherry Street, Bluffton Ohio. 

Guidelines:

Vendors with non-commercial artwork and crafts are invited to participate in this event. Mass-produced components should be limited and not sold separately. 

The Bluffton Police Department has issued this friendly reminder: Please lock your vehicles and garage doors to prevent your valuables from be taken.

The first week of August 2022 featured air conditioner weather.

Lows stayed in the upper 60s and highs were mostly in the upper 80s.

Bluffton High School led Celina 2-0 in the girls tennis season opener Monday evening at the Ohio Northern University courts when rain ended play. The Pirate girls were on the verge of victory when play had to be stopped with three matches tied in the third set.

MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio⎯Dante Tate, one of three men who have been charged in events associated with the death of Bluffton police officer Dominic Francis on March 31, 2022, has been sentenced to two years in prison.

On July 6, the 19-year-old pled guilty to two charges⎼failure to comply with an order of a police officer and receiving stolen property⎼and was sentenced on Monday, August 8, in Medina County Court.

LIMA, Ohio⎯At 6 p.m. on August 11, Bluffton musicians Jeffery Yoder and Wendy Chappell-Dick will return to the stage at the Every Body Art Show pop-up gallery for a second Joni Mitchell tribute. This time they are playing with the addition of the jazz stylings of pianist Dean Altstaetter.

There is no admission fee for the event, tips only. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and drinks will be served from 4:00-8:00 p.m. The address is 516 N. Main St., Lima.

The Bluffton High School golf squad split a three-team Northwest Conference match Monday at the Bluffton Golf Course.

Leipsic captured first with 172 strokes, followed closely by Bluffton (176); Ada was a distant third (264).

Greenhorn restaurant with co-host Eikenbary Landscape Company will host a block party beginning at 3 p.m. and continuing through the evening on Saturday, August 20. Vine Street will be closed to traffic and parking from Main St. to the alley.

The event will feature Detroit legend Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale. Organizers describe Hale as "the godmother of house music." Local DJ Jon Humphrey will open the musical presentation.

Janet Blank, 79, of Bluffton, OH went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, August 6, 2022 at home with family by her side. 

Janet was born April 6, 1943 to Jesse and Lillian (Kennel) Yoakam, who preceded her in death. On June 16, 1962 she married David M. Blank, who survives in Bluffton. 

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry (Rachel) Yoakam. 

Survivors include a brother, Roger (Shirley) Yoakam of Pickerington, OH; a son, Randall (Kaylene) Blank of Ottawa; a grandson Levi Blank of Pandora, and a granddaughter Michaela Blank of Columbus.
