At the October 17 Bluffton Board of Education meeting, the elected officials approved contracts including winter sports coaches, approved an overnight trip to Washington D.C. for 8th grade students and heard about expanded Fire Safety Week presentation by the Bluffton Fire Department, among other business.
High School students (and twins) Lauren and Alyssa Speicher were introduced to the board: Lauren has been designated as a 2023 National Merit Scholar semifinalist and Alyssa is a commended student in the program. It was announced that board member Jeremy Scoles received a 2022 OSBA Aptitude Award from the Ohio School Boards Association.
A Fall Choral Concert will be held at Bluffton University’s Yoder Recital Hall at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.
Under the direction of Dr. Bo Young Kang, director of choral activities, the concert will feature solo and duet performances from the Vocal Chamber Ensemble, Camerata Singers and University Chorale.
This concert will feature Baroque music written by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Vivaldi and others.
This event is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be taken for music scholarships.
MT. CORY–Kaleidoscope Farms, 14841 Co Rd 54, Mt Cory, is again honoring U.S. troops by participating in the Operation Evergreen program on November 6.
“We get to celebrate Veteran’s Day in a special way at Kaleidoscope Farms,” said farm owner Dave Reese. “We participate in Ohio’s Operation Evergreen Program that sends around 100 Christmas trees from the state’s Christmas tree growers, complete with handmade ornaments, to troops stationed overseas for the holidays.”
An Election Day Dinner will be held at Bluffton First United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall (Church Basement), 116 Church Street, on Tuesday, November 8.
The menu is Baked Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Vegetable, Roll, Dessert
The meal will be served from 4:30- 6:30 p.m.

A reminder for households with children in Bluffton Schools: There will be a two hour delay on Wednesday, October 26 so that the teachers can attend an in-service meeting.
Got tickets? The Friends of the Library Autumn Tea will be held from 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at in the Richland Room in the lower level of the Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main.
A formal English-style tea will be served including finger sandwiches, scones and dainty desserts on fine china.
The event includes live entertainment by the Rainbow Dulcimers and a Silent Auction of interesting books and other items.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Bluffton Public Library. All proceeds benefit the Bluffton Public Library.
Grismore Rd. bridge between Napoleon and Cool roads will be closed from 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 for roadway paving. School Buses and Emergency Vehicles will have access during this closure.

Rhodes State College and GROB Systems of Bluffton have celebrated their 10th anniversary of being apprenticeship partners. Students in the apprenticeship program can earn their degrees from Rhodes State College while getting hands-on training from GROB.
To date, over 200 degrees have been awarded through this program. In addition, 270 apprentices have been hired after completing their training.
A Findlay resident and native of Ukraine will present the Forum “The Road to No Home: From Ukrainian Citizen to Refugee,” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in Bluffton University’s Yoder Recital Hall.
During the presentation, Lana Mosser, a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Findlay, will tell the story of her sister’s flight from Ukraine after Russia attacked the country on Feb. 24, 2022.
The presentation is free and open to the public. Forum is Bluffton’s weekly gathering of students, faculty, staff and community for interdisciplinary conversation and discovery.
