VAN BUREN--The Bluffton High School volleyball team won the first game but ended up falling in four sets on the road to Van Buren in a Div. III Kalida sectional first round match Monday evening, October 17.

The 20-25, 25-14, 25-11, 25-20 defeat ended the Bluffton season with a record of 13-10.

Homestanding VB improved to 18-3 with the tournament victory.

It was the second time in five days that the two teams faced off, with the Black Knights also winning their five-set battle Oct. 13.

Discovery Days wrap up in October

A street fair will fill Vine Street--and close it to traffic--from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 22 as part of the final Discovery Day of 2022.

Coordinator Liz Gordon-Hancock has ten vendors scheduled with offerings such as apple cider slushies, kettle corn, herbal teas, buckeyes, and many other baked goodies. There will also be craft vendors offering Christian home decor, dog wearables, unique Pirate gear, and custom gifts. Discovery Day regular Folly Faces will also be there.

A last call for votes has been issued by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce: a vote for your favorite scarecrow decoration in downtown Bluffton, that is.

The deadline is Wednesday, October 19. There are paper ballots available at the Bluffton Senior Center and you can vote online at explorebluffton.com/scarecrows

 

Vocal groups (3-8 members) are being sought to provide all types of Christmas music before and after the Blaze parade on Saturday, November 26, in downtown Bluffton.

Groups can be a cappella or accompanied by acoustic guitar and should be prepared to sing 3-4 songs.

Beginning at 4 p.m., until the start of the parade at 5 p.m., these vocal groups will, independently, roam Bluffton’s Main Street sidewalks, alleys, gazebo, businesses, and perhaps the Main Street stage, serenading guests awaiting the beginning of the parade.

HANOVER, Ind. – The Bluffton University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-1 decision at Hanover College on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Beavers fell to 15-7 overall (3-2 HCAC) while the Panthers improved to 12-10 (3-2 HCAC).

The Bluffton University football team dropped a 48-20 decision to Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Beavers dropped to 0-6 overall (0-3 HCAC) while the Engineers improved to 3-3 (3-0 HCAC).

Students, staff and community members of Cory-Rawson Local Schools  gathered on October 14 to dedicate Mrs. Wagner’s Reading Tree. Susan Wagner taught for many years with most of her time being spent in first grade.  She was in the classroom even while battling breast cancer. She passed away in June of 2021. 

More than 100 high school students competed

The Bluffton High School Academic Team won the runner up slot in the varsity division at the Northwest Conference Scholastic Bowl Tournament held Friday, October 14, 2022, at The Ohio State University at Lima. Lincolnview took home top honors in both the varsity division and the junior varsity division.
