As many gather for Thanksgiving celebrations with family and friends, the American Red Cross urges donors to shake up their holiday traditions and plan a time to give blood or platelets in the coming weeks.

Blood and platelet donations tend to drop more than 20% during holiday weeks, including the days around Thanksgiving. Seasonal illness and the threat of winter weather can add more concern during a time of year that is traditionally hard on the nation’s blood supply.

Watching the 2022 installation of the Ream Folk Art Display on the lawn of Bluffton Presbyterian Church felt a little like hanging out in the kitchen, watching Thanksgiving dinner being made. The hard work and expertise that go into the masterpiece are underappreciated unless you’ve attempted the enormous task yourself.

Why is there a “curve” on Bentley Road just north of Bluffton where the road crosses Riley Creek?

There’s also a curve on Tom Fett Road and on Phillips Road at about the same location.

On Phillips Road it's a serious twist, instead of being just a curve in the road. That’s because the Tom Fett and Bentley “jogs” have been modernized. Phillips remains the same at it was when it was originally laid out.

The Bluffton girls basketball team held off a late rally to defeat backyard rival Allen East 55-52 in an exciting championship game at the annual Lewis Family McDonald's Holiday tournament late Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Mustangs had a last-gasp chance to tie it on a left wing three-pointer in the final seconds. The shot by senior Kennedy Truex was on line but came up just short to preserve the three-point Pirate win.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-0 with the hard-fought win. AE fell to 1-1 with the difficult defeat.
