"The Final Countdown" is a song released by the group Europe on February 14, 1986. The song performed by the Swedish rock band reached number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song is often played at sporting events to rally the crowds.

On January 30, 2023, President Biden announced the administration’s intent to end both the national emergency and the public health emergency for COVID-19. These emergency declarations have to be renewed every 90 days and are set to expire on May 11, 2023. Experts have some significant concerns about the changes the final countdown will bring to medical services.

Volunteer crews on the Bluffton EMS had 85 calls for service in March 2023, according to chief Jan Basinger. A year to date total for calls is 202.

The breakdown of medical calls, hospital transfers, motor vehicle accidents, fire alarms and medical mutual aid is below.

GROB Systems, Inc. has announced a public Open House from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 at their at 1070 Navajo Drive, Bluffton facilities. The public is invited to visit the facility and tour the state-of-the-art complex. Visitors will have an opportunity to see products in operation, learn about GROB's state-registered apprenticeship program and view other office buildings.

The League of Women Voters of the Lima Area will hold an informational meeting on mental health services for children at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17 at the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin County, 529 S Elizabeth St Ste 200, Lima.  The guest speaker will be Tammy Colone, Director of the Mental Health & Recovery Services for Children. This meeting is open to the public.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly breakfast meeting on Friday, April 14.

Finding reliable employees has become increasingly difficult. Employers need to explore all options to fill open positions. Michelle Steinke, Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) will be the guest speaker and will talk about alternative workforce opportunities and the work of OOD.

A Blanchard Valley Health System Auxiliary initiative will improve patients’ comfort as they recover from surgery–and the idea was the brainchild of a BVHS patient and associate, whose own recovery was assisted by her training as a nurse, and by a creative mind that made her think of using a tool belt to hold surgical drains.

Kay Alexander, a licensed practical nurse who still works per diem at BVHS, was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2022. After discussing her options, she decided to undergo a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction at Bluffton Hospital.

Patients leaving the hospital after a mastectomy–as well as several types of abdominal surgery–must wear drains to catch fluid for at least a week, and often longer. It’s important to find a comfortable way to hold the drains in position.

The usual recommendation is to pin them to one’s clothes. However, Alexander was looking for a more comfortable way to secure them after her January mastectomy.
