The visiting Bluffton varsity softball team crushed Spencerville 23-4 in a Northwest Conference matchup Thursday evening, April 28.

The potent Bluffton offense cranked out a season-high 27 hits, including eight of the extra-base variety, to post the blowout win.

The Pirate girls improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the NWC with the decisive victory. Streaking Bluffton has won eight of its last nine games.

The Bearcats fell to 3-12 and 0-5 in the NWC with the defeat.

ODOT District 1 has announced the following construction projects.  Work is weather permitting.

Interstate 75 southbound ramps at Bluelick Road will be closed on Monday, May 2, for a few hours on each ramp to complete bridge inspections.

TRAFFIC IMPACT

Southbound Exit Detour:  I-75 south to SR 81 to I-75 north back to Bluelick Rd.

Southbound Entrance Detour: I-75 north to Napoleon Rd. back to I-75 south.

Bluffton University students showcased the research, pre-professional and creative endeavors they completed from spring 2021 through spring 2022 during the Bluffton University Research Symposium. The April 21 event included presentations from 19 students.

“It was interesting to see everyone come together,” said Evie Masters ’24, a psychology and social work double major from Arcadia, Ohio. “It was a collaborative effort to explore the different majors at Bluffton and the different classes and learn about what everyone is studying.”

Planning to vote on Tuesday, May 3? Village residents have polling places at 601 N. Main St.

Two local issues are on Bluffton ballots for the May 3 election: an income tax renewal for the Bluffton Exempted Village School District and--for Precinct B voters only--a liquor sales option for the 1861 Wine Lounge to be located at 115 N. Main St., Bluffton.

Samle ballots can be viewed on the Allen County Board of Elections website.

The Bluffton University baseball team avenged a pair of Sunday losses to Albion with a convincing 5-2 win on the Britons playing field on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. Bluffton improved to 16-18 on the season, while Albion fell to 13-20.

It was two different stories when Bluffton welcomed long-time rival Defiance College for a doubleheader on a cold and windy Wednesday, April 27. Bluffton shut down DC 3-1 in the lidlifter before the Yellow Jackets turned the tables with a 20-5 rout in game two. The Beavers moved to 13-21 overall and 5-9 in the Heartland Conference.
