Visiting Carey scored five runs in their final at bat to overcome a two-run deficit and edge the Bluffton High School softball team 10-9 in a wild season opener on a cold Tuesday evening, March 29.

The Pirate girls (0-1) trailed 5-0 after four innings, but rallied with an explosive seven-run fifth frame.

Yet Carey regained the lead with five runs in the seventh. Bluffton threatened to come back by plating two runs in the home seventh, but came up just short.

Signs announce the 1861 Wine Lounge at 115 N. Main St. Precinct B voters will also find the business on their May 3 ballot, requesting approval of its request to serve beer, wine and mixed beverages, and spirituous liquor.

The Bluffton High School boys tennis team lost its spring season opener 4-1 to visiting St. Marys 4-1 Tuesday evening, March 29.

The Pirate netters host Elida, another Western Buckeye League foe, at 4:30 p.m on March 30.

Visiting Carey defeated the Bluffton High School baseball team 7-2 in the season opener on a chilly Tuesday evening, March 29.

Blue Devil pitcher Jordan Vallejo hurled a complete-game victory. He struck out nine Pirates to post the win.

Four Blue Devils each collected two hits--Ethan Burton, Nate Crawford, Ethan Plott and Andrew Plott--to pace the victors.

Up next for the Bluffton nine is a date at non-league foe Liberty-Benton Wednesday, March 30.

Chestnut Lane moves forward, sump pump discharge inspection; street sign sales

The sun was still shining at 7 p.m. as Mayor Rich Johnson called to order Council's first meeting of spring, which would touch on many spring-like topics like paving roads, mowing grass and observing rivers.  After an embedded public hearing, Bob Fett's Chestnut Lane development was given full Council approval to proceed to the next planning stage.
