Katheryne Patterson, who is known as the Bluffton elementary school music teacher by a generation of Baby Boomers, will celebrate her 99th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 24. She is a lifelong Bluffton resident and lives at Maple Crest.
Her list of community activities seems endless as she has always maintained a wide variety of interests, making her a Bluffton icon in her own right.
She was born to Albert and Anna (Leichty) Lugibill on Oct. 24, 1910, in Bluffton. Unknown to most people, a twin sister, Dorthea, died on the same day Katheryne was born.
At the moment, Main Street has two sets of street lights. On the west side the lights appear to be displaced football field lights. On the east side (left) the new street lights are in place. The lights on the west side of Main, if you hadn't noticed, are in place while the streetscape project in underway. They will be soon replaced by lamp posts that carry an 1930s-era light, just like the ones on the east side. Although a bit blurry, this photo was taken a one-eighth of a second with the lens wide open at 4.5 to capture this look.
This one has us scratching our heads. It was taken on Oct. 16 during the BHS vs. LCC football game. Could it be a Lima resident? RN Randi, please identify yourself.
There are oodles of foods that bring back strong memories of my childhood. Until I was in high school I'm quite sure that I had never eaten a biscuit that was born out of a can, a pie crust that had ever encountered a freezer, a cake that had been conjured from a cardboard box or an entree that didn't have some kind of fresh, frozen or canned vegetables that hailed from our garden.
