Vanis C. Scalf, 65, passed away December 20, 2024, at Lima Memorial Health System. Vanis was born May 8, 1959 in Virginia to the late Ernest and Virgie (Eldridge) Scalf.
Vanis was a graduate of Wayne Trace High School. He retired from Holtgreven Scale in Findlay where he had been a service manager. Vanis enjoyed nature, reading the newspaper, collecting old radios and tinkering.

Sam D. Bassitt of Lima (Allen Co.) has been reappointed to the James A. Rhodes State College Board of Trustees for a term beginning December 19, 2024, and ending August 31, 2027.
Matthew LaFontaine of Findlay (Hancock Co.) has been reappointed to the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council for a term beginning January 1, 2025, and ending December 31, 2027.
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, will hold a special 9:30 a.m. service on Christmas Day.
The theme is: God Gives Himself to Us. The Readings are: Exodus 33, Romans 8:31-32, and John 1. The hymns are: "O Come, All Ye Faithful; Once in Royal David's City, Carol of the Bells; Come, Your Hearts and Voice Raising; O Jesus Christ, Your Manger is; From Heav'n Above to Earth I Come; and Go, Tell it on the Mountain. The Choir will sing "Carol of the Bells" accompanied by the Handbell Choir.
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce held a member breakfast meeting on Friday, December 13, which included reports on the 2024 Blaze of Lights, member announcements and a program by Dave Stratton of Greater Lima Region and Cindy Leis of Allen Economic Development Group.
CHAMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chamber director Jim Enneking announced that the Winter Farmers Market will return to the Bluffton Senior Center for a second season starting December 21. He also noted that local businesses benefited from the exceptionally cold temperatures during the November 30 Blaze of Lights, which drove folks indoors.
Enneking announced a new chamber member, Schroeder Roofing of Columbus Grove.
