Dr. George Metz elected to NCAA Committee
Dr. George Metz, professor of education and education department chair at Bluffton University, was elected to the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives (FAR) Executive Committee as Division III representative, during the FAR annual symposium, Nov. 12-14 in St. Louis, Mo.
"This is an exciting opportunity to work with faculty colleagues across the NCAA to ensure the integrity of the student-athlete experience, particularly at the DIII level - the heart of the NCAA," said Metz.
He will serve two years on the 15-member committee which includes representatives from each of the other NCAA divisions. Metz was nominated by the incoming NCAA Division III president from his service on the Legislative Review Committee.
The entire FAR group, representing nearly 1,200 institutions across all three NCAA divisions, was provided with brief bios of the candidates before voting. Metz is one of two Division III representatives on the executive committee.
The FAR Executive Committee works with the NCAA to promote the well-being of student-athletes in each division and is closely aligned with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
They meet three times a year and hold monthly conference calls. "I look forward to the challenges as we deal with issues of academic progress and gender equity in this important component of the student-athlete life on campus."
