An Ordinary Day
By Tanya Pike
By the time I arrive home it is dark. Winter Solstice is upon us and I am grateful that natural light will soon be returning, tick by tick.
I pull into the driveway as dusk is falling. The flowers in the gardens that we worked so hard in all summer are gone. There are brown leaves covering the small patch of grass that has finally moved from green to rest in brownness.
Concentus will perform a benefit Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Yoder Recital Hall.
This choir, formed in the fall of 2003, will perform John Rutter's "Gloria" and numerous Christmas carols. Joining Concentus this year will be a brass and percussion ensemble, performing with the choir on the Rutter piece.
A free-will offering will be taken. Half of the offering will go to support the recent earthquake and flood victims in southern Asia. The other half will cover the program expenses.

The Bluffton board of zoning and appeals granted a rear yard variance in a hearing held Dec. 14.

The purpose of hearing was to consider the variance for an addition to the house at the address. A garage and second story will be added to the back of the house into the rear yard.
