Syd Lewis Gwin, 34, passed away April 8, 2023 in Columbia, South Carolina. Syd was born July 4, 1988 in Shelby, Ohio to Herman Gwin and Julie Cukrowicz. On August 30, 2014, he married Abigail Steiner Gwin, who survives.
Syd was a graduate of Ashland High School. He owned and operated his own construction business. Syd enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, motorcycles, camping, kayaking and snow skiing with his family.
The visiting Ada High School softball team beat local rival Bluffton 6-2 in a Northwest Conference contest Thursday evening, April 13.
The Pirate girls fell to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the NWC with the loss.
The Ada girls record improved to 10-1 overall after the win. The Bulldogs are in first place in the NWC at 3-0 with the convincing victory, tied with perennial power Crestview.
Payton Stephens ’22, a writing and communication and media double major from Lebanon, Ohio, was named the winner of Bluffton University’s annual C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest.
Stephens’ speech, “Finding Peace in Religious Conversations: The Free Exercise Clause and Public Schools,” was delivered to address issues of restraining religious conversations in schools.
The United Way of Greater Lima will hold its Rock N’ Roll Awards Celebration for the 2022 campaign beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 at the OSU Lima Campus Cook Hall Gymnasium.
The event begins with live music from the Happy Jack Band, as well as pizza, wings and soft drinks provided by Westgate Lanes. Social networking will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The awards celebration begins at 7:00 p.m.
