Rick Skilliter and William Gaiffe have Wall of Honor plaques

A new Bluffton tradition was established last week, recognizing retired Bluffton police officers.

Two retired Bluffton police chiefs are the first inductees to a Wall of Honor, recognizing the officers. Those inducted this year are Rick Skilliter and the late William Gaiffe.

The May 15 ceremony, took place at the newly-established wall on the second floor lobby of the police department in the town hall.

A: Bluffton Hospital OB department - just ask any women who has delivered there

Where can you get the best milkshake in Bluffton?

Many women might answer: The OB Department of the Bluffton Hospital.

For as long as most can remember, the OB milkshake is part of the entire birthing experience at the hospital. 

And, no one is certain when it started. Jane Agner, with 43 years in the department, and Elaine Sommers with 44 years in OB, say that the tradition was in place prior to their joining the hospital staff.

Here’s how the milkshake experience works and what make it so interesting:

Crimson Lane, 4600 County Road 1, Ada will host a craft beer and wine night from 6 to 10 p.m., Thursday, May 23, according to Jodi Willeke.

The evening features craft beers from Fat Heads, Moeller and Rhinegeist.

The event includes live music from Shifferly Road Band of Bluffton and a slow smokin’ barbecue food truck.

Crimson Lane opened this past winter. It hosts events such as weddings, anniversaries, reunions, and business conferences and meetings. It  is located 3 miles north of Ada on the Hardin-Hancock County Line Road and 2.5 miles east of State Route 235.

Anyone who has stepped into the Bluffton High School band room recognizes this wall mural.  Tonight BHS senior musicians will be recognized in the annual music awards ceremony. Watch the Icon for the award winners. Also, for the first time, the Icon will post the list of all-time music award winners, going back to 1967.

Bluffton University is offering a Basketball Skills camp for girls, in grades second through eighth, from Monday, June 17 to Thursday, June 20.

This camp is a great opportunity for student athletes to focus on skill development and the fundamentals of the game.

Session 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, is for players entering grades second through fourth.
Session 2, from 1 to 4 p.m. is for players entering grades fifth through eighth.

Rhodes State College, Lima, announces its dean’s list for the spring semester. 

To be eligible for this full-time Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
