Hanco EMS, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, has achieved an EMS Star of Life Award presented by the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire and Transportation Services, and the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Medical Services. 

This award honors the exceptional work of Hanco EMS and recognizes its remarkable life-saving efforts and patient care performed during a particular incident.

Northbound I75 near SR 103

Interstate 75 northbound near state Route 103, Bluffton, will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for bridge deck repairs during daytime hours on Wednesday, May 22.

This work was originally scheduled to occur on Thursday, May 16, but was postponed. The following ramp closure and associated detour will be in place during the work. Work is being performed by the ODOT District 1 roadway services department.

The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free Community Meal on Wednesday May 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora.  

The meal this month is provided by RW Transportation. The menu is scalloped potatoes, ham, green bean casserole, cookie and beverage.

with Crime Victim Services, Lima

Crime Victim Services, Lima, invites Icon viewers to become volunteer guardians for persons in Allen and Putnam counties, according to Elysia Bush, director of the CVS elder victim ministry and guardian programs.

Court-sworn guardians are needed to make decisions related to social services, housing and healthcare for individuals deemed unable to make those decisions themselves. 

A session explaining the program is at noon and again at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 23, at Crime Victim Services, 330 N. Elizabeth St. Lima. A light meal is included.

2019 Bluffton HS graduates listed

Bluffton school board will approve the list of 2019 graduates at Monday’s board meeting. The list is attached at the bottom of this story.

Also on the agenda is the announced retirement of John George, high school teacher. He joins Sue Epp, middle school teacher, who announced her retirement last month.

Several supplemental coaching contracts for next school year are on the agenda.

The Bluffton Public Library budget hearing date and a five-year revised forecast from the school treasurer, covering 2019-2023, will be considered for approval.

Dr. Cynthia Bandish will participate in special week-long teaching European art seminar

Bluffton University is pleased to announce that Dr. Cynthia Bandish, professor of English, is one of a select group of faculty members nationwide chosen by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to participate in a special week-long seminar on Teaching European Art in Context.

The seminar, “Art and Society in Britain, Hogarth to Turner (1730– 1851),” will be held at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Conn., July 21–26, 2019.
