I enjoy very much reading the Bluffton Icon on my computer. I lived in Bluffton from 1963-1965. I was a Dutch MCC-trainee working at the library of (then) Bluffton College.
Shortly after having arrived at Bluffton some people took me to a small local museum, not far from Bluffton. At that museum there were many appliances and old machinery which we still used every day on my parents' farm back in Holland. It was like living in two eras at the same time.
An open house for prospective students and their parents is planned Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Apollo Career Center. It is for ninth and tenth grade students and their parents or anyone interested in learning more about Apollo. Instructors and staff will be available to provide information and answer questions.
Bluffton Public Library is currently operating with $64,000 less in state funding as compared to 2008, according to Cindi Chasse, library director.
The staff and administration identified a wealth of savings that allowed them to sustain services and hours during a very challenging year, but the threat of additional state funding cuts may make that even more difficult during 2011. The Ohio Library Council has recommended that libraries plan for an additional funding reduction of 15 percent.
