Chamber members share their "dreams" for Bluffton

Call it a "working session," 45 members of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce put their heads together and focused on several issues involving the community. The session took place during the April 9 chamber breakfast in the town hall.

The chamber board asked its members to discuss four themes:

1 - Increasing communication to benefit member businesses

2 - Provide resources for members

3 - Inform and education members

4 - Grow and promote Bluffton

Bluffton University senior Jason Frey, from Schuylkill Haven, Pa., placed first in the university's annual C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest on April 7.

School board holds special meeting April 12

The Bluffton school board will hold a special meeting at 8 p.m., Monday, April 12, in the superintendent's office to discuss three items of business, according to Greg Denecker, superintendent.

West family breaks ground on hospital expansion

Hospital ER/OR renovation and expansion underway

It's official: The Bluffton Hospital multi-million dollar ER/OR renovation and expansion is underway.

With a ceremonial tossing of dirt by Isabelle, James S. and John West, on April 8, the project began. Following the West family, Ropp Triplett tossed a shovel of dirt at Bill Watkins, Bluffton Hospital chief administrative officer. Ropp and Mary Emma Triplett served as campaign co-chairs.

The project will create new, much needed space for Bluffton Hospital's emergency and surgery departments, as well as add professional/medical office space.

Edgar Eugene Wenger 1932-2010

Edgar Wenger

Edgar Eugene Wenger, 77, of Bluffton, died at 2:48 p.m., April 7, 2010, in Bluffton Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1932, to Oscar and Frances "Fannie" Flythe Wenger. On June 28, 1958 he married Rita Quillin and she survives.

Mr. Wenger was a skilled tradesman in machine repair. He retired from Dana Corp., Lima. He was a member of Local UAW 1765. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been a past member of the Bluffton Fire Department. He was a 1950 Bluffton High School graduate.
