BFR hosts Blaze camp

Bluffton Family Recreation is holding a Blaze of Lights camp this year during Thanksgiving break.

  • Register participants for November 22, 23 or both
  • Before care begins at 7:30 a.m.
  • After care provided until 5:30 p.m.

Campers will get to help design, build, and decorate a float that will be in the parade on Saturday November 26 during Bluffton's Blaze of Lights. Participants are invited to ride the float during the parade as well.

Cory-Rawson art showcased

COLUMBUS– At the Ohio Middle Level Association annual state conference, held in Columbus November 10-11, 2022, a Cory-Rawson teacher was recognized and two students had art showcased in the event.

Beaver football player honors in All-HCAC

The Bluffton University football team capped off year one of Head Coach Matt Nardo's tenure with nine All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honorees for 2022. The Beavers placed five on the second team and had four earn honorable mention All-HCAC.

Fifth-year senior Keith Holmes Jr. (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales) nailed down his third straight post-season honor. 

Junior stalwart Markus Finley (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) bullied opposing defenses en route to his third straight Second Team All-Heartland Conference award.

Nov. 29 Bluffton Forum features Rev. Joanna Harader

Rev. Joanna Harader, pastor, Peace Mennonite Church, from Lawrence, Kansas, will present the Forum “Expecting Emmanuel: Entering Advent with the Women of Jesus’ Genealogy,” at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Yoder Recital Hall.

The author of a new Advent devotional book shows how the Bible can provide a space for authentic conversations through a discussion of four women from the Hebrew scriptures in Jesus’ genealogy.

Call for volunteers: Ream Folk Art set up on Nov. 19

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, the Bluffton Cultural Affairs committee will be assisted by volunteers in setting up the Ream Folk Art display at Bluffton Presbyterian Church. False shooter threats result in Allen, Hancock Co. school lockdowns on Nov. 16

False reports of active shooters were received in multiple Ohio schools on Wednesday, November 16, including schools in Allen and Hancock counties.

The Icon received a report from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department detailing that “at approximately 9:40 a.m. the Allen County Sheriff’s Office received a call stating there was an active shooter at Lima Temple Christian School with multiple injuries. At 9:43 a.m. law enforcement was on scene and began assessing the situation.”
