"Lead with Compassion" is theme of Bluffton Lions Peace Poster contest

On November 15 the Bluffton Lions announced 2022 Peace Poster contest winners.

The first place winner is Sophia Gilroy of Jenera, daughter of Dawn and Joseph Gilroy. Her poster will be included in the district level competition of the International Lions Club's annual peace poster contest, along with winners from other Lions clubs in northwestern Ohio.

The two runners-up were Chloe Hanefeld, daughter of Bill and Becca Hanefeld of Bluffton, and Serenity O'Connell, daughter of Carissa and Taylor O'Connell of Bluffton.

Santa's Fire Truck at BPL

The Bluffton Fire Department has found Santa and his broken sleigh. Santa was doing a pre-Christmas run when his sleigh broke. We asked if Santa could come to the library for a FREE night filled with stories and take-home crafts.

Cory-Rawson among districts featured at state education conference

COLUMBUS — The Cory-Rawson Local School district showcased one of its outstanding student achievement programs at this year’s Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference and Trade Show. 

The Student Achievement Fair, which highlights exemplary programs and student  performing groups, is one of the most successful and rewarding exhibitions at the Capital  Conference.

Two fatal traffic crashes during October in Allen County

The Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition reports there were 2 (two) fatal traffic crashes on Allen County roadways during the month of October 2022. 

A total of 12 fatalities resulting from traffic crashes have occurred so far this year. One fatality recorded for this month was a result of a crash that took place in September.

Before and after attractions added to Blaze of Lights

The 36th annual Blaze of Lights holiday celebration is scheduled for Saturday, November 26 in downtown Bluffton, Ohio. 

Activities on November 26 include 

  • Small Business Saturday specials at downtown businesses
  • NEW: Carolers on Main Street prior to the parade
  • 5:00 p.m. - One of the largest holiday parades in the area begins on Snider Rd. and travels up Main to College Ave.
  • Following the parade, entertainers will perform on the main stage at Main and Cherry; the Christmas story will be read, an honoree will light the Ream display
  • Santa will visit with children
  • NEW: Allen County RTA Trolley will provide tours past decorated homes.  
  • NEW: Blaze After Lighting heated tent on Vine St. with refreshments and entertainment

The Blaze After Lighting is a new feature that will open after the lights are turned on at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church yard. It will feature beer, bourbon pours, spiced wine, hot chocolate, food vendors and live jazz music by The Jerry Szabo Trio and The Pinup Project, all under a heated tent on Vine Street.

Bluffton girls tip off season Friday with annual tourney

The Bluffton girls basketball team tips off its 2022-23 season by hosting the annual Lewis Family McDonald's Holiday tournament this Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Pirates will play Arlington in the second semifinal Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m., or 15 minutes after the first semifinal game.

Allen East will face off against Cory-Rawson in the first semi Friday at 6 p.m.
