Fall instrumental concert at Yoder Recital Hall, October 23

Bluffton University’s fall instrumental concert featuring Concert Band ensembles will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Yoder Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. Roy Couch, music department chair, ensemble selections will include “Bright Shining as the Morning Sun,” “Dancing in Air,” “A Sacred Suite,” “Benediction,” and “…and the antelope play.”

Chamber Discover Days wrap up on October 22

October 22 has dawned and it's a beatiful day for hanging out in Bluffton. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has promoted activities for the final Discovery Day of the season, which includes the opportunity to win Bluffton Bucks when you visit and shop at participating businesses.

Activities include:

Bluffton Cars & Coffee - 8:00-11:00 a.m.

Blufffton Farmers Market - 8:30 a.m.-noon

Street Fair on Vine - 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

And the winner of the scarecrow contest is....

Susie Stratton of Roots by Strattons (center) accepted first place honors in the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce's first annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest. The shop's elegant princess scarecrow was created by Rahda Tague. Presented by Liz Gordon-Hancock (left) and Jim Enneking (right). Second place went to Citizens National Bank; third place went to Blended Roots and the Gordon-Hancock family.

Social work majors to ‘trick or can’ for food pantry

Members of the Bluffton University Social Work Club will take part in a “trick or can” during Bluffton’s trick-or-treat festivities. Students go door to door asking for donations of shelf-stable and nonperishable food items from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27.

Donations may also be left on doorsteps and porches to be collected.

No monetary donations will be accepted. Donations will be delivered to the Bluffton Community Assistance Corporation’s food pantry.

Scoles selected for OSBA school board member award

Bluffton School Board member Jeremy Scoles is the recipient of the 2022 OSBA Aptitude Award, a distinction conferred by the Ohio School Boards Association.

He is one of 38 board members selected for this award, out of 3,400 board members in Ohio. The Aptitude Award is part of the association’s STAR Awards Program, which emphasize Service, Training, Aptitude and Recognition.
