Dwayne Thomas Chiles obituary

Dwayne Thomas Chiles, age 53, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022

Dwayne was born March 3, 1969 in Lima, OH, to the late Thomas Dwayne and Sierra Sue (Kohli) Chiles. On May 19, 1991 he married his best friend, Sara Jane (Lanker) Chiles.

Student presentations on cross-cultural experiences

Bluffton University students who participated in short-term cross-cultural experiences last spring will speak during Forum at 11 a.m.  and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Yoder Recital Hall. The presentations are free and open to the public.

Students who traveled to Czech Republic, the Southwest Native Nations, and Washington, D.C., will speak during the morning session while students who explored Guatemala, Kentucky, Korea and South Texas will present in the evening.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Crossroads Crisis Center of Lima will be posting a "Have You Ever Said?" daily in October to help raise awareness of abusive relationships.

Sept. 2022 Bluffton Lions report

At the Bluffton Lions September meeting, the board reported the following:

  • Blaze of Lights parade will feature a Model A parade vehicle and the high-wheel bike for the Lions Club.
  • Community meal to be December 1 at the Senior Center.
  • Peace Poster contest will be ready to judge by November 15.
  • Estimated date for the County Line Road Pathway construction is March or April 2023. The State Route 103 pathway will start in May 2023. A capital fund raising campaign with the goal of raising $90,000 will be held for the 103 pathway.

October Beanstack reading challenges: Fall into Reading, Hallow-Read

The library has two Beanstack reading challenges for October in conjunction with the Hispanic Heritage Month Challenge continuing through October 15. 

Fall Into Reading and Hallow-Read both begin on October 1. Whatever your reading interest, there’s a challenge for you!  We challenge our patrons to read during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at http://blufftonpubliclibrary.beanstack.org. Happy reading, Bluffton!

Albrecht Gallery reception Oct. 15: Baumgartner, Fultz, Steiner, Sugden

Bluffton University will host an artist reception featuring Andreas Baumgartner ’08, Jim Fultz, T.R. Steiner and Philip Sugden from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 15, in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Sauder Visual Arts Center. The event is part of Bluffton’s Homecoming and Alumni Weekend 2022 activities. The artists will share about their work and answer questions at 10:30 a.m.

The exhibit featuring their recent work is currently on display and will be open to the public through Oct. 15.
