Bluffton history programs, in the village and on the road

Three Bluffton history programs take place in the next two weeks presented by Fred Steiner of BlufftonForever.com  Each is free and open to the public.

Monday, Aug. 15 at Bluffton Public Library
Reservations are being accepted for a repeat presentation of Bluffton Then and Now, given at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15, at the Bluffton Public Library, lower level.

The library program uses over 90 Bluffton photos going back over 140 years. It was first presented in July and there was a demand for a second program.

Linda Houshower was a labor and delivery nurse; founding partner of The Food Store

Linda (Beechy) Houshower, 70, died on August 5, 2022 at University of Michigan Hospital after a short struggle with a rare, untreatable cancer.  Born December 27, 1951, to the late Orin and Marie (Ramseyer) Beechy, she grew up in Wooster, OH where she was an active member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church and the YMCA where she taught swimming.  During high school years, she was a counselor at Camp Friedenswald where she developed her love of nature and met her life partner, Hans Houshower.

Pirate netters fall to Indians

Bluffton High School lost 4-1 at Shawnee in girls tennis action Tuesday afternoon, August 9.

The loss dropped the Pirate record to 0-1 with one tie this season.

The Bluffton tandem of sophomores Kaleigh Coffman and Brooklyn Moser swept to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second doubles to provide the lone Pirate win.

Shawnee won the other four matches in straight sets. The Pirate girls play Kenton at Ohio Northern University Thursday, August 11.

Summary of August 8 Council Meeting

Public complete streets workshop, August 12 / Celebration for Officer Lonny Kent, August 27

On Monday, Agust 8, Village of Bluffton council members were presented with a very light agenda on the dog-days of summer meeting. There were no committee reports or legislative action on the table.

ADMINISTRATION
Village administrator Jesse Blackburn reported on progress of two special committees. The Complete Streets Task Force culminates their work this Friday, August 12 with a full-day workshop, open to the public, to distill their surveys and findings into a policy to guide how the Village builds streets to accommodate more varied forms of getting around.

Fall Arts & Crafts show invitation from Blended Roots

October 15 event at 246 Cherry Street

Blended Roots will be hosting its first annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festivalfrom 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m on October 15, 2022. It will be located at 246 Cherry Street, Bluffton Ohio. 

Guidelines:

Vendors with non-commercial artwork and crafts are invited to participate in this event. Mass-produced components should be limited and not sold separately.
