Weekend Doctor: Diabetic foot infections

Diabetes mellitus (diabetes) is an epidemic that results in numerous complications, hospitalizations and deaths worldwide. Diabetes occurs when your body is not able to process and use glucose (sugar) from food. This results in too much glucose accumulating in your blood stream. This can have negative effects on many different organs and parts off your body.

Bassitt advances in World Championships 400m hurdles

UPDATE: Bassitt placed second in one of three semi-final heats on July 17 to advance to the July 19 finals of the Men's 400m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships.

EUGENE, Oregon⎯On July 17, Bluffton High School graduate Trevor Bassitt will compete in the Men's 400m hurdles semi-finals on Day 3 of the World Athletics Championships,

He will race in the second of three heats, which begin at 9:03 p.m. ET The first two finishers of each heat plus the two fastest times advance to the finals on

Bluffton Dari Freeze highlighted on Ohio Ice Cream Trail

Ohio.org's Ice Cream Trail now features a hometown favorite, the Bluffton Dari Freeze.

The map is part of "Ohio. Find it here" promotions. There are 20 ice cream shops listed. The Dari Freeze description reads:

"Bluffton The Dari Freeze has been a small town staple in the village of Bluffton for nearly 70 years. This small corner shop serves up big flavor. Create your own milkshake, order a classic twist cone with Krunch topping, or choose from one of their dairy free options to beat the summer heat. Pair your treat with a bite to eat!"

Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters invitation to meetings

Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters is a club for quilters at any level or ability, and welcomes anyone interested in helping create baby quilts for local foster kids and full size quilts for local veterans.

In July 2022, the club donated 40 baby quilts to Allen County Children’s Services. These quilts will be used in "love luggage” which are special backpacks filled with gender-specific toiletries, toys, cuddly, a quilt or blanket, and other little things to give to kids as they are going into foster care.

Findlay library to host international book discussion August 9

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library has announced a new program that unites Findlay with its friendship City, Kawaguchi, Japan via Zoom. The Kawaguchi Book Club will take place on August 9 at 7:30 p.m.  

This discussion was organized by Dr. Hiroaki Kawamura of the University of Findlay, and Mr. Ken Ono of Kawaguchi, Japan. Members of the staff at Kawaguchi’s public library approached Dr. Kawamura to propose a discussion between their library and staff at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library.
