A Saturday garage sale for a good cause
A garage sale for a good cause is planned for Saturday, May 15, at 9380 N. Dixie Highway, Bluffton.
Proceeds for the garage sale will go to the annual Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance walk, held May 22 in Centerville. The May 15 garage sale was created on behalf of Kevin Sehlhorst. He is the 21-month-old son of Ben and Beth (Wasserman) Sehlhorst. Ben is a 1999 graduate of Bluffton High School. Beth is a 2003 graduate of Bluffton University.
Ben and Beth were married in 2003. They are parents of two young boys, Landon, 2, and Kevin. In November of 2008 , young Kevin was diagnosed at age 3 months, with a condition called Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. This is a genetic disorder that causes tumor growth through the entire body.
Kevin's neurological system and kidneys have been severely affected. Kevin has undergone three major neurosurgeries and will likely need a kidney transplant. His parents say that they are fortunate that Kevin's heart has not been affected.
Tuberous Sclerosis Complex affects 1 in 6,000 individuals, however Kevin has an incredibly rare form that affects 1 in 150,000.
"We will be holding the garage sale and Ben's grandparent's home," said Beth. "All proceeds will go to the annual Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance walk hopefully, someday a cure.
