Pirate softball loss vs. Knights

CONVOY - The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost 10-2 to Northwest Conference rival Crestview on Thursday, April 23.
The Pirate girls drop to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the NWC with the loss. Crestview improved to 6-10 and 3-1 in NWC play after the decisive win.
The Knight girls led 5-1 after three innings of play and never trailed. Bluffton scored single runs in the third and fourth frames.
Karleigh Davis and Jessa Swank tallied the Pirate runs. Danielle Cross had the lone RBI. Camryn Fruchey singled to provide the only Pirate hit.
But the hosts broke it open with two scores in the fifth frame and three more runs in the sixth to build an eight-run cushion.
Bluffton was out-hit by Crestview, 7-1. The Pirates drew seven walks but their pitchers issued eight walks. The Pirates also committed five errors that led to four unearned runs.
Pirate Peyton Worcester pitched the first three innings to get the loss. She gave up two hits and five earned runs with eight walks.
Reliever Haelee Rayle hurled the final three frames, allowing five hits and one earned run. She struck out three
Knight pitcher Kaylee Mollenkopf hurled a seven-inning one-hitter to earn the win. She allowed one earned run with seven walks while striking out eight.
Dakota Thornell drove in three runs for the Knights. Mollenkopf and Kaci Gregory each had two hits and scored twice.
The Pirates stranded seven runners, while Crestview left six on base.
