Jan Hochstettler, 1941-2010
Jan Hochstettler, 68, passed away at home Wednesday, June 17, 2010, in Midland. She was born on July 5, 1941, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Mae (Duckworth) and Earl Hardy.
On July 8, 1961 she married A. Dale Hochstettler of Bluffton. They lived in Midland, Mich., since 1961.
Jan graduated from Central Michigan University, obtaining both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts. She was a teacher and administrator at Midland Christian School, and was an adjunct faculty member at Great Lakes Junior College.
Over the years Jan was also an instructor of insurance classes and partnered with her husband in the insurance business at Hochstettler & Associates.
Jan was active in Our Reedeemer Church and later Eagle Ridge Church of God.
She is survived by her husband Dale: by her daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Kelly Neer of Columbus, Ohio, daughter Anita and son-in-law Larry Crochet of Dallas, Texas, son Jared and daughter-in-law Molly Hochstettler of Osceola, Ind., and "adopted daughter-in-love" Connie Smith of St. Augustine, Fla.
Also surviving are grandchildren Patrick and Abby Neer, Lewis Crochet, Ashley and Andrew Hochstettler, Bevan, Jonathon and Christene Smith; her siblings, brother Steve and sister-in-law Connie Hardy of Osceola, Ind., sister Carol and brother-in-law John Becker of Chandler, Ariz., sister Ruth and brother-in-law Alan Fisher of Greenville, S.C., and brother Dave and sister-in-law Angela Hardy of Mishawaka, Ind.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, from the Eagle Ridge Church of God, 2808 Waldo Avenue. Visitation is at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
There will be no visitation at the church prior to the service on Wednesday. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Midland Christian School, Spring Hill Camps of Evart, Mich., or the Care Giving Network of Midland.
