Bluffton Library to celebrate 75 years of service
Bluffton Public Library is busy making plans to celebrate its 75th anniversary during the month of September. "This is a significant milestone to celebrate, though a challenging one to plan, with the loss of nearly 30 percent in state funding last year and further cuts this year," library director Cindi Chasse said.
"Celebrate the Good Old Days" is the theme of the library's month-long celebration. Activities throughout the month of September will include a family storytime, classic book discussion, classic film screenings, vintage toy program, "name that tune" contest, make-and-take crafts, 1930s trivia and displays, prize drawings and more.
The celebration will conclude with an open house event held during regular business hours from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 25, in conjunction with Bluffton's Fall Festival. An additional after-hours family activity is also being planned for Sept. 25. More information will be available in September.
The community is invited to share in the celebration and enjoy the various programs and activities made possible by generous donations from the Friends of the Library, local businesses, volunteer speakers, volunteer performers and vendors.
"A number of door prizes have been donated in recognition of the library reaching this significant milestone, including a GPS - so that one may always find the way to a library, wherever he or she is," public relations coordinator Leslie Liberato shared.
