Annexation of North Dixie area has enough signatures to pass

Bluffton council on Monday passed the second reading of an annexation ordinance, which would bring in 37 parcels of land to the village from the North Dixie Highway neighborhood, south of the village.

According to Fred Rodabaugh, mayor, 17 out of 35 property owners have signed the petition for annexation. The village is one of the 17 signers because it owns property in the area seeking annexation.

Dick McGarrity voted against the ordinance, which passed 5-1.

Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, provided council with an update on the Spring Street bridge project. He said in his report to council that according to Brion Rhodes, U.S. Bridge is planning to deliver and install the bridge trusses nest week.

Apparently there was a slight delay in the galvanizing process. There was not enough room at the Ohio plant. The trusses needed, instead to be shipped to a plant in Pennsylvania.

In addition, there was a venting problem with the trusses during the galvanizing process. That problem necessitated additional processes to take place to insure a quality finish.

Mehaffie informed council that Nancy Benroth, former assistant village administrator, recently accepted the position as village administrator for the Village of Anna. She began her new position last week.

Two persons were sworn in as part-time police officers on Monday. They are David Schultz of Findlay and Dominic Francis of Bluffton.

Council's utility committee will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, prior to the 8 p.m. council meeting.
