Scouting for food and other activities make October busy month for Bluffton scouts

Bluffton scouts have a busy and active October, according to
Darrell Groman, Troop Asstistant Scoutmaster and Pack Webelos Leader.

Here are some of the activities planned:

Saturday Oct. 16: afternoon the Bluffton Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be taking (unmarked) yellow bags around Bluffton with a flyer stuck inside for our "Scouting For Food" drive.

The yellow bags will be left on door knobs and will be picked up on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24. Non perishable food items, such as canned food will be gratefully accepted for donation to the Bluffton Food Pantry. Paper products, such as toilet paper and paper towels would be accepted, as well.

Saturday, Oct. 16: Bluffton Village Park shelter house. 53rd annual Jamboree On The Air. Third year for the Bluffton cub scouts and boy scouts to contact scouts around-the-world on this annual event, third weekend in October.

Four local short wave radio operators: Bill Gaines, Roger Grose, Adam Wireman and Brian Binkley will fire up their short wave (HAM) radios to talk with scouts world-wide.

Bill Gaines is putting up a 50-foot antenna to talk with scouts at distant locations. In the past two years, the Bluffton Scouts talked with Scouts in Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia and United Kingdom, as well as Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas.

October 2010: the Bluffton Cub Scout Pack 256 and Boy Scout Troop 256 are underway to sell popcorn during annual fundraiser. (this is the fundraiser, which raises most of the funding for the Bluffton Scouts.)

Of each sale, 30% stays locally with the Bluffton Pack and Troop, 40% goes to the Black Swamp Scout district in Lima and council in Findlay.
