Bluffton musicians to present junior recitals

James Brake, a percussionist from Ohio City, Ohio, and Timothy Yoder, a pianist from Dalton, Ohio, will perform their Bluffton University junior recitals jointly at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Brake will present three numbers-"Initium IV" by Jacques DeCluse, on snare drum; "Etude" by Dennis G. Rogers, on drum set; and "Carnival of Venice" by Giulio Briccialdi, on xylophone. Accompanying him on the xylophone piece will be pianist Anna Stembler-Smith, piano instructor at the university. Brake is a student of Dennis Crites, an adjunct faculty member at Bluffton.

Yoder, a student of Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of music at the university, will perform Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor, Op. 90," Grainger's "Mock Morris," Joplin's "Stoptime Rag" and "Danzas Argentinas" by Alberto Ginastera.

The recitals are presented in partial fulfillment of requirements for graduation from Bluffton with a major in music education.
