Betty Reed previously worked at Triplett Corp., Bluffton

Betty J. Reed, 89, died on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at 6:26 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Kinniconick, Ky., to Ernest and Dorothy (Pell) Rhoden who preceded her in death. Betty married Elvin Reed and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Betty formerly worked for Triplett Corp. of Bluffton, Westinghouse of Lima and prior to her retirement she worked at the Marysville Correctional Facility. Betty was a homemaker. She was a USO volunteer and a member of the Kenton Moose Lodge #428 Ladies Auxiliary.

Here are some imporant dates leading up to the Blaze for downtown businesses and volunteers interested in helping put up the Ream holiday folk art display.

Book fair open tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

It's book fair week at the Bluffton elemetary school. Daily hours are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. now to Thursday and 8 a.m. until  2 p.m. on Friday.  Family Night is Tuesday, Oct. 25, (tonight) from 6 until 8 p.m. There are hundreds of books for all age groups and interests. The book fair is in the elementary library.

Friday deadline for BFR indoor soocer league signup

First session starts Nov. 6

It's not too late, but time is getting short.

Team registrations are still being accepted for fall indoor BFR soccer competition. Session I is from Nov. 6 to Dec. 17. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 28. The team fee is $460.

New this fall is a holiday soccer tournament set for mid-December for all high school leagues. Watch for more details on the tourney.

Zickafoose named HCAC Player of Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University sophomore ISAAC ZICKAFOOSE (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) has been named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a career-day in Bluffton's 34-6 win over Manchester on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

Zickafoose stuffed the Manchester offense with 11 tackles, including 10 solos, on Saturday. He equaled Mitch Agner's (2008) school record with five tackles-for-loss. The defensive tackle also made his presence known with three sacks, a forced fumble and a recovery in the Beaver victory.

Weisgarber named HCAC Player of Week

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton University sophomore ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) propelled the Beavers to a perfect 3-0 mark on the week with conference sweeps of Manchester and RHIT along with OAC foe Wilmington on her way to being named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week on offense.
