Lady Pirates bombard Spencerville 14-4 (softball)
After a very cold and busy opening week of softball, the Bluffton Lady Pirates welcomed the Spencerville Bearcats Thursday night at Harmon Field in conference play.
The Pirates coming off back to back losses to Perry hoped to warm up the bats against the Bearcats.
The Pirates quickly went on the attack scoring 11 runs in the first inning to lead 11-0. Spencerville came alive in the third inning scoring one run and then adding three more the next inning.
Bluffton's defense pulled together in the fifth inning to hold the Bearcats at 4 runs. The Pirates then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to cruise to a 14-4 five inning win.
Brianna Laing and Ashiln Gable led the Pirate bats with three hits each. Laing batting in 3 RBI's with a double and two singles, Gable added 2 RBI's with three singles. Molly Lengyel, Adrian Rumer, and Kayla Longworth each had two hits a piece for the ladies.
Lengyel smashing two doubles, Rumer bringing in two base runners with a double and a single, and Longworth adding a double and a single. Katie Palte and Mariah Welch each blasted triples.
Longworth got the win on the mound (2-3), striking out 4 Bearcats and allowing 4 hits. The Lady Pirates improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the NWC. The Pirates will take on the Pandora-Gilboa Rockets Friday at Harmon Field.
