Lady Pirates blast Anna 22-3
The rain did not damper the Lady Pirates Thursday as they traveled to LCC for a conference game with the T-Birds. The Pirates have been rained out all week, coming off a 6-4 loss to Crestview last Thursday and a 22-3 blasting of Anna on Saturday.
After a short wait on the rain to clear a bit, the Pirates opened up with a home run smash by Molly Lengyel in the first inning scoring two runs.
The T-Birds answered with 1 run in the first, but that would be the end of their flight as the Pirates defense stepped up and held them scorless the rest of the game. The Lady Pirates continued to play solid offense racking up 2 more runs in the 2nd inning and adding 6 runs in the 3rd to lead 10-1 heading into the 4th.
Ashlin Gable added her own rain dance to the T-Birds defeat, smashing a solo home run in the 4th, boostin the score to 14-1 heading into thr 5th. The ladies were able to close out the game in the 5th, adding two more runs and holding the T-Birds on a nice double play by Briana Laing to end the game.
The Pirates racked up a total of 13 hits and held the T-Birds to just 2 hits. Kayla Longworth improved to 7-4 on the mound, throwing 4 strike outs and walking 2. The Pirates are 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the NWC. The ladies travel to Van Buren Friday to take on the Knights in non-conference play.
