Triathletes taking to the streets (and pool) in Bluffton

The first Be A Beaver Triathlon is set for Saturday (May 31) in Bluffton.

Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool, the event will include a 400-meter pool swim, a 20-kilometer bike on nearby country roads and a 5K run through village streets and the Bluffton University Nature Preserve.

Sponsoring the triathlon are CenturyLink, a Fortune 500 telecommunications firm; Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co. of Bluffton; and Muddy River Bicycle Co. of Findlay. Community partners are the village of Bluffton and the community pool.

Robert Barnett was active in many Bluffton organizations

Robert E. Barnett, 95, died at 12:04 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at Bluffton Hospital. He was born on Aug. 27, 1918, in Whitehouse, Ohio, to the late Paul Barnett and Bertha (Studer) Barnett. He was married for 71 years to Mary Marshall Barnett who survives. Their wedding took place in San Antonio, Texas Dec. 24, 1942.

Families invited to BFR Summer Celebration June 2

Start the summer by attending a carnival-style event hosted by BFR Sports & Fitness on Monday, June 2, from 6-8 p.m. 

Activities for families with young children will include face painting, Minute-to-Win-It challenges, Twister, three-legged race, sack race, wheelbarrow race and two special triathalon events for youth. Parachute activities will be included at the end of event. Parents and children can “get active” together at this event. Tickets (50 cents each) will be required to participate in the races and contests.

Talented!
