Summer jobs for college students - from sweating in the sun to sweating in a tie

From sweating in the sun to sweating in a tie during a business meeting, college students find themselves with whatever summer jobs they can get. In this economy, they have never been harder to find.

This summer I will be starting my new job, an internship with F&W Media in Cincinnati. I have worked at a restaurant for six years so this will be a change of pace. My advice to anyone looking for a summer job is to give it all you have-it's only for a couple months!

1950s confirmation class

You are looking at a photograph of a confirmation class from St. John's United Church of Christ (E&R) from the 1950s. (Or, we should ask, is this a combined confirmation class from St. John's and Emmanuel?) Rev. Opperman is the pastor and several familiar residents are members of the class. We'll defer to Icon viewers for those specific identifications, which should arrive soon.

The last name roll call on this photo includes Jordan, Zimmerly, Core, Michel, Badertscher, Tschantz, Criblez, Neuenschwander and, who did we miss?

St. Mary's church bell returns

St. Mary's church bell returns

The bell of St. Mary's has returned after a winter "in the shop." The bell was taken down in October for a cleanup. The bell and its tower were put back into place in front of the church this week.

St. Mary's Catholic Church host to Thursday American Red Cross blood drive

Bluffton's next American Red Cross blood drive is from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Bluffton drive is part of National Volunteer Week slated for April 10 through 16.
