BVH to open new women and children's center

Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH), Findlay, is opening a new center for OB/GYN and pediatric care. The Women and Children's Center of Blanchard Valley Hospital will begin seeing patients Monday, Sept. 13 at their office located at 1818 Chapel Drive, Suite C, Findlay.

Obstetrics and gynecology services will be provided by Dr. Miguel Jordan, Dr. Mary Long, Dr. Kristi Pedler and Certified Nurse Practitioner Teresa Jones. Pediatric care will be provided by Dr. Ailing Chen.

Sprague, Koch, Hunter single winners in tennis

The Bluffton High School girls tennis team won both its midweek matches, topping Defiance 4-1 Wednesday and Lima Senior 5-0 Thursday. The girls play Saturday at the Elida Invitational.

Singles winners in both matches for the Lady Pirates were Emily Sprague, Shannon Koch and Jess Hunter. Ashlin Gable and Kristi Geiser won at No. 1 doubles against Defiance, while Shaye Liddick and Liz Diller lost due to injury in that match. Lima Senior forfeited both doubles matches due to lack of players.

Punt, Pass and Kick Competition Sept. 18 in Jenera

A Punt, Pass and Kick competition will be hosted on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Trinity Lutheran School's field across from the school at 105 Allen St., Jenera.

Registration is at 12:30 p.m. prior to the 1 p.m. event and participants between the ages of 6 and 15 years should bring their birth certificates.

Travel Class donation to library represents $1 for every year in its 110-year existence

Marilyn Bishop, president of the Bluffton Travel Class presents Cindi Chasse, Bluffton Public Library administrator, a check for $110. The check represents the 110th year in existence of the Travel Class.

The Bluffton Travel Class has issued an interesting challenge to Bluffton clubs and organizations. To help the Bluffton Public Library celebrate its 75th anniversary this month, the Travel Class has donated $110 to the library.

Sept. 11 Gumbyfest features Jesse Henry band

Are you ready for Gumbyfest 2010? The 'fest, now in its second year, includes a hog roast and music by former Bluffton resident Jesse Henry, who is bringing his band The Spikedrivers. (www.thespikedrivers.com)

It all takes place at the Crawfis residence, 8795 Phillips Road, Bluffton, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.

As managers for a senior citizen apartment building here in Bluffton, my wife and I are often approached by various organizations interested in helping out, or wondering what donations could be made to support our residents.

Of course we are always grateful for the interaction (as are our residents), and we normally direct these groups to some recurring effort such as Bingo, or food donations.
