True to their name, The Icon found these purple-vined flowers blooming in the early morning hours. By late morning they had closed for the day. Morning Glories are in full bloom this month in Bluffton...if you look for them at the right time of day.

BHS girls' tennis team wins second straight

Bluffton High School's girls tennis team won its second straight match Wednesday afternoon by edging Tiffin Calvert 3-2 in Tiffin. Emily Sprague won in straight sets at No. 1 singles and both doubles units won in straight sets.

The No. 1 doubles team of Ashlin Gable and Kristi Geiser shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, while Liz Diller and Shaye Liddick won 6-0, 6-3. Shannon Koch and Jess Hunter lost close matches at the other singles slots. The girls compete in the Lima Invitational Saturday.

Bridge over the Creek Riley

And this scene changes daily. Here's a look at where the Spring Street bridge will eventually cross the Riley (photo taken Monday evening). The trusses have arrived and this scene will change again soon. The bridge work is ahead of schedule with a projected completion date of Nov. 1.

Love Legacy workshop Sept. 14 at Maple Crest

Injuries and accidents, hospitalization, serious illness, life-changing emergencies... are you prepared to handle life's unexpected obstacles?

Beyond Budgeting will host an informative seminar, Leaving a Love Legacy, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the Patio Room at Maple Crest, Bluffton.

BHS alumni band rehearsal Aug. 29; performance Sept. 3

Get your horns, drums, flags and batons out and start practicing. Former Bluffton High School marching band members are invited to join the 2010-2011 Bluffton High School marching band for the pre-game show on Friday, Sept. 3.

This includes horns, woodwinds, percussion, flags and majorettes. Those who are able are welcome to march down from the high school to the field with the band prior to the game.

Bowling leagues forming at Southgate Lanes for 2010-11

Bowling leagues are forming now at Southgate Lanes, Bluffton, for the 2010-11 season, according to Derek Dukes. Openings are available for men's leagues, women's leagues and teams. Contact the bowling alley for availability. Dukes said that leagues start soon.

Opening bowling's first week is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-12. Call or stop in Southgate for lane availability.

Southgate, which enters its 51st year in business, offers complete bowling alley rentals, birthday party packages and a restaurant-bar.
