Back-to-school details for elementary parents, students

Several events prior to school starting next week, and after school starts, are on the calendar. Tim Closson, elementary principal provided The Icon with the following information for parents:

MEET THE TEACHER: We will hold our "Meet the Teacher" on Friday, August 27th from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. in the elementary school. Bus lists will be posted in the elementary hallways.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES: The school supply list is posted on the school website. Kindergarten student supplies will be furnished in their classrooms.

BVH offers test to determine genetic probability of breast cancer

Blanchard Valley Hospital's Woman Wise mammography department has partnered with Myriad Genetics to offer a test to determine risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. This new test is called the BRACAnalysis(R).

You can be on Bluffton school alert!

BLUFFTON EXEMPTED VILLAGE SCHOOLS ALERT SYSTEM: If you would like to be notified of delays and/or cancellations via a text message on your cell phone, visit the Bluffton school's website at www.bluffton.noacsc.org and sign up.

On the website's home page under the "Parents/ Community" heading click on "Parent Alert System" and follow the simple steps to subscribe to alerts.

BCE art auction set for Oct. 23

Mark your calendar now and save Saturday, Oct. 23, for the second annual art auction and dinner to benefit the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE).

The evening will begin with an hour to preview the auction and enjoy drinks from a cash bar, include an elegant dinner, and culminate with the auction featuring work from local artists.

This year, BCE organizers are hosting a juried show of some 30 pieces of art. They are also seeking donors to match the gavel price of one or more items, as an added incentive to bidders.

3 more concerts planned for Town Hall Series

The Bluffton Town Hall Concert Series will continue through the fall with the following concerts:

Sept. 7 - Garden Sharste Monks

Oct. 23 - The Hepcats Costume Party (Jazz band from Toledo)

Nov. 14 - Music under the Town Hall Rafters (local Bluegrass jam)
