Film festival set in Bluffton University
Bluffton University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement, an educational program for retirees, will host its second annual film festival, featuring “Families in Foreign Films,” from March 5 - 8.
One movie will be shown each day in 114 Centennial Hall, beginning with a film review at 9 a.m.
Following the films will be discussions over lunch, which participants should bring. Cost for the festival is $3 per session or $9 for all four sessions.
Registration is requested by March 1, but walk-ins are welcome.
The festival will open March 5 with "Everlasting Moments,” a 2008 film in which a woman in early 20th-century Sweden uses photography to cope with a difficult husband, several children and economic hardship.
"The Makioka Sisters” is the March 6 film. In the 1983 movie, four sisters reflect social changes in 1938 Japan in their relationships with each other, their husbands and marriage customs.
On March 7, the 2011 film “A Separation” tells the story of a husband who refuses to emigrate with his wife and daughter from contemporary, urban Iran because he needs to care for his aging father at home.
Wrapping up the festival on March 8 will be, from 2010, "A Screaming Man," in which civil war impacts the relationship between a father and his young adult son in contemporary Chad.
