Matilda McNeil was at Burroughs Corp. for 32 years

Matilda Alma McNeil, 93, of Pandora, Ohio, died at 12:10 a.m. on March 23, 2013, at the Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.

She was born on March 23, 1920, in Driscoll, North Dakota, to Martin and Lucille (Meyers) Ambers. She married Ingavald M. Iverson on Sept. 16, 1943, in Moorhead, Minn., and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1968. She then married Clayton D. McNeil on Oct. 2, 1981, in Kenton, Ohio, and he died on Dec. 7, 1997. 
 
She is survived by a brother, Kenneth Ambers of Milpitas, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Vivian McAninon, Marvel Voss, Virginia Koch, Genevieve Baker and brothers, Cecil and Merle Ambers.

Mrs. McNeil was a graduate of the Kindred School System in Kindred, North Dakota. She joined the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in 1943 and served in Washington, D.C., until her honorable discharge from the Active Artillery Unit.

She was employed for 32 years at the Burroughs Corp. in Detroit, Michigan. She retired as a permanent UAW member of Local 1313 on August 25, 1980.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jenera, Ohio. In her early years she attended the Norwegian Lutheran Church, chartered by her father and grandfather, in Driscoll, N.D. While living and working in Michigan, she taught third grade Sunday School for many years.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Jenera, with Pastor Alois Schmitzer III and Pastor Jeffery Bolwerk officiating.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Cadillac Memorial Gardens in Westland, Mich. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera. Arrangements are by Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremations Services, Bluffton.
