Gospel Choir performs April 20 in Yoder
The Bluffton University Gospel Choir will present “Messages of God’s Enduring Grace, Mercy and Provision” in its spring concert, at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in Yoder Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Songs on the program were chosen because of their meaning to Dr. Crystal Sellers Battle, the choir director and an assistant professor of music at Bluffton, as she has dealt with health challenges in her family.
The choir will perform music by some of her favorite gospel composers, including Dr. Raymond Wise, who visited Bluffton in November 2011. Wise’s “No Matter What I’m Gonna Keep On” has been among the songs serving as inspiration for her and her family, Sellers Battle says.
The concert will feature student soloists Julia Thomas of Springfield, Ohio, and Marquis Brown of Cleveland, along with community soloists Marlyce Gundy of Bluffton and Kathy Grady of Findlay, Ohio. Seniors in the choir will sing one number, and a group of students and community members will use American Sign Language to assist on another piece.
Sellers Battle says she hopes listeners will also “find inspiration and confirmation of God’s love for them through the music of this concert.”
