Grove Alumni Association preserves 1936 community film
Wouldn't it be neat to have a 25-minute movie showing Bluffton in 1936?
The Columbus Grove High School Alumni Association has preserved two reel-to-reel films that depict the Columbus Grove community and school system as they were in 1936.
The silent films were re-discovered by Laura Clevenger in the library a few years ago and, thanks to her, were saved and moved into the new building.
The almost 25-minute films have been digitally restored and set to music. Scenes of the film include a tour of the downtown store fronts, the churches, a ride with the fire department, loading the school busses, the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, the pool (under construction) and a parade of the classes of CG Schools.
The Association plans on making copies and selling the film as a fund raiser. Copies will be available for sale and/or order by Alumni Weekend which is June 14-15, 2013.
Tickets for the all-alumni cocktail party on the Friday, June 14, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the pool and for the banquet on June 15 are on sale online and will also be available at Hawkey’s Pharmacy and Carl’s Hardware beginning May 1.
