C-R sixth grader DAR essay winner
Sixth grader Erin Murray of Bluffton, Ohio was the local and regional winner for her essay written for the DAR American History essay. Fifth grader Danny Kelly of St. Michael’s School in Findlay won second place in the local Fort Findlay contest.
The students were to write an essay about an historic or fictional child who lived at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Erin, a student at Cory-Rawson School, won first place award from the Fort Findlay Chapter for her essay and went on to be the winner of the Northwest Ohio Branch of the Ohio DAR contest.
The national DAR supports and encourages students to learn about history and selects a topic each year that students in grades five through eight can enter. Students from public, private, or parochial schools or students who are home schooled can participate. The Fort Findlay Chapter of the DAR has supported this undertaking for many years.
