Bluffton goes 3-1 at Wooster Kilt Classic

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Bluffton University volleyball team began the morning with a solid win against Muskingum University. The first set was a tight battle with the Beavers losing to the Muskies by two, 25-23. Bluffton took the next three sets to win the match convincingly (25-16, 25-21, and 25-19).
KENDRA PARMENTER (Grove City) powered the team offensively with 20 kills, hitting at an astounding .531 clip. SARA ROTH (Findlay/Van Buren) handed out 53 assists and LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) aced the Muskies three times.
Defensively, Weisgarber was a force at the net with a solo block and five block assists. From the back row, freshman libero SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/ Central Catholic) led the Beavers with 16 digs and Roth contributed 13 pickups.
For Bluffton's final match of the tournament, the Beavers faced Kalamazoo College which recently took defending national champion Calvin College to four sets. The teams battled back-and-forth for five riveting sets. A 15-9 clincher gave the Hornets a victory over Bluffton.
Junior JENNY BROWN (St. Marys/Memorial) and MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) led the team offensively with 13 kills each and Parmenter added 12 as well. McFarlin rifled three aces and Roth dished out 51 assists. Mohler and Roth led the defense with 19 and 15 digs, respectively, while Weisgarber followed close behind with 12. ASHLEY LITWILLER (Hopedale, IL/ Olympia) had a solo block and three block assists in the loss to Kalamazoo.
The Beavers now stand 11-2 on the season. McFarlin represented Bluffton on the Kilt Classic All-Tournament Team after pounding 47 kills over the weekend. Bluffton will return to play on Wednesday, Sept 17, when the Beavers travel to Thomas More for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Saints.
