ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union Purple Raiders were able to take advantage of some key opportunities while notching a 3-0 victory over the Bluffton University men on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Alliance. The score, however, does not show how well the visitors battled in this contest as the Purple Raiders only outshot the Beavers 13-10. The win pushed the home team to 4-2 on the campaign, while the Beavers dropped to 1-5.
Mount Union tallied its first goal 16 minutes into the contest as Trevor Wendel found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. The Beavers would continue to battle through the beginning of the second half, but the home team began to show why they are now 4-2 and added two goals midway through the final period to put a stamp on their 3-0 victory.
Sophomore keeper Jeff Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) earned four saves in the contest, while Mount Union goalkeeper Dylan Lias turned back all five shots that came his way. T.J. Kline (Mogadore/Lake Center Christian) led the Beavers with three shots, two of them on frame.
The Beavers will return home on Saturday, Sept. 20, as they take on the Thomas More Saints at the Sears Complex on the campus of Bluffton University. The match is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start following the women’s contest. Come support your Beavers!
