$1,230 raised for Drew Rayle Memorial Fund - and it involved lots of Nerf bullets

Nerf bullets were flying Friday after school in the old baseball diamond area at Bluffton University. The event raised $1,230 for the Drew Rayle Memorial Fund.

Game inventor, Jamie Nygaard, explains the game this way: "Pipe gun wars is a game that Christian (Jamie's husband) and I made up with our boys.

"It involves a 30-inch long 1/2 inch thick PVC pipe that the kids decorate and then put Nerf bullets in and blow out trying to 'hit' their opponent to send them to 'jail.' It's a mix between 'capture the flag' and a 'Nerf gun battle.'

"We started it just so our boys could play with their friends. First year we had 70 kids and parents play, the second year we had over 100 and we decided to have everyone bring $5 donation/player.

"Last year we raised $400 for the Bluffton Food Pantry. This year we had close to 200 kids and parents playing and we raised $1,230 for the Drew Rayle Memorial Fund.

"We give 100 percent of the proceeds to whoever we are raising money for. Everything else is donated."
