WAYNESBURG, Penn. - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team’s late comeback was not enough as they lost at Waynesburg University, 3-2, on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Waynesburg started the scoring early in the first with a goal by Nikki Davis off a corner kick less than 10 minutes in. They followed with another goal by Sara Hackman at the 25:54 mark. Both defenses turned up the pressure to close out the half as Waynesburg took a 2-0 lead at the break.

Waynesburg continued to attack in the second half, but keeper Katie Neeley (Huner heights/Wayne) picked up three saves before the home team struck again with a goal at the 62-minute mark. The Beavers answered with a goal of their own three minutes later by freshman Brittany Huff (Union/Northmont), her first collegiate score.

Bluffton's late push continued as they scored again when a Huff corner kick connected with teammate Jo Bondra (Highland Heights/Mayfield), who found the back of the net to put the Beavers in reach with just over seven minutes to play. Bluffton managed a few more shots as the clock ticked away, but Waynesburg held on for a 3-2 victory. The visitors slipped to 2-6 on the season following the loss to the Yellow Jackets.

The Beavers will be back on the field Tuesday, Sept. 30, when they welcome Heidelberg to the Sears Complex at 4 p.m.
